Off-Road Driver Lost in Angeles Forest Rescued
Searchers on Tuesday rescued an off-road enthusiast lost since Saturday in the Angeles National Forest.
A sheriff’s helicopter crew spotted Tom Hines, 40, about noon on Tuesday wandering near a mountain ridge several miles north of Castaic, according to Lt. Scott Young of the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station.
Hines, who was in good condition, was reunited with his wife at the sheriff’s station, Young said.
Authorities said Hines, a Castaic resident, left in his pickup on Saturday and headed to the forest for some off-road driving.
On Monday morning, Hines’ wife told authorities her husband had called her on his cell phone to report he was lost in the forest without water, Lt. Steve Dolan said.
More than 25 rescue workers, including search teams from Malibu, Monrovia and Crescenta Valley, helped with the search, Young said.
