Rebels Say Army Is Attacking, Despite Talks

Sudan has launched a major offensive against rebels just days after announcing a breakthrough in talks aimed at ending a 19-year war, aid workers and rebels said.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Army said more than 1,000 people had been killed since Friday. The government was not immediately available for comment.
Dan Eiffe, a spokesman for the relief group Norwegian People’s Aid, which works in Sudan, said the fighting was “extremely heavy.”
