Rainy Day Schedule
The Times has just printed its semiannual rainfall chart for the years since 1877 (July 5). On my desk is a photocopy of a similar chart published in The Times on Aug. 15, 1886, that showed rainfall back to 1872-73. In those years, the Signal Corps kept the official records for local precipitation.
Notice the heavy rainfall during that early period. The year 1875-76, however, would have been one of the driest years on record.
1872-73 ... 24.78 inches
1873-74 ... 21.67 inches
1874-75 ... 26.47 inches
1875-76 ...... 5.28 inches
