Amplifying Guitars
Some of the most fabled rock ‘n’ roll images involve someone smashing or setting fire to a guitar, which in some circles ranks as the best possible use for the instrument. But for those who love guitars as much for their craftsmanship as their sound, there’s GuitarNation at www.guitarnation.com.
The site has images of guitars, basses and related instruments from about 60 builders around the world, along with links to the builders’ sites. Instead of such factory-made staples as Fender Stratocasters, GuitarNation presents only custom and handmade instruments. Visitors also can hear samples of several of the guitars, with more on the way.
Granted, not everyone drools at the sight of ivory tuning pegs or elaborate fingerboard inlays. The point, said site operator Norman L. Beberman of Newport Beach, is simply to celebrate the art of the guitar.
Naturally, it’s only for those who prefer their guitars intact and not aflame.
