From Times Wire Reports

The Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors must investigate a 1968 police and army massacre of student demonstrators in Mexico City, even if the statute of limitations has expired.

The panel unanimously rejected arguments by the Justice Department that prosecutors could not investigate what has become known as the Tlatelolco massacre because no charges could be brought.

On Oct. 2, 1968, Mexican authorities opened fire on a largely peaceful student demonstration in the downtown Tlatelolco Plaza, killing an estimated 300 protesters.
