Key Labor Panel Takes Stand Against Secession
Mayor James K. Hahn gained a major ally in his battle against secession when a panel of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, said Wednesday that it will oppose efforts in the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood and harbor area to break away.
The federation’s Committee on Political Education, which has about 100 members, voted unanimously to oppose secession and committed the group to “mass mobilization” efforts.
The federation is an umbrella group for unions representing 800,000 workers, including 175,000 who are registered to vote in Los Angeles.
