Hart’s Guards Stand Tall Against Towering Saugus

Hart High climbed over Saugus’ trees and now sits alone atop the Foothill League in girls’ basketball.

Facing a front line that stood 6 feet 2, 6-1 and 6-1, the Indians relied on defense and dominating guard play to claim a 43-32 victory Tuesday at Hart.

Freshman Ashlee Trebilcock scored 18 points and junior Amanda Patton had 11 points for Hart (18-3, 5-0), whose backcourt outscored Saugus’ guards, 29-2.

Ali Campbell scored eight points and 5-9 forward Brandi Kimble had 11 rebounds.

Defending-league co-champion Saugus (16-3, 3-1), played without Coach Eric Olsson, who served a one-game suspension after being ejected from a game last week.

The front line of Julia Bradley (16 points), Jessi Loring (10 points) and Sheridan Arredondo (four points) accounted for all but two points for the Centurions, who made 14 of 43 shots (32%). Hart, ranked 11th by The Times, made 16 of 58 (27%).

Brea Olinda 66, Placentia Valencia 46--Carrie Noyes scored 26 points and Lauren Pedersen had 10 assists and six steals for eighth-ranked Brea Olinda (12-6, 5-0). Valencia is 11-9, 3-2.

Irvine Woodbridge 61, Aliso Viejo Aliso Niguel 34--Stephanie Marks scored 14 points for ninth-ranked Woodbridge (20-2, 4-0) in the Sea View League game. Aliso Niguel is 12-9, 2-2.

San Clemente 64, Mission Viejo 34--Sara Brown scored 23 points and Lindsey Plumier had 14 for third-ranked San Clemente (17-3, 5-0) in the South Coast League.

In boys’ basketball:

La Crescenta Crescenta Valley 61, Pasadena Muir 56--Jimmy Goffredo scored 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter for Crescenta Valley (15-6, 4-1) in a Pacific League game. Chris Tarne scored 19 points for Crescenta Valley, which led by six at the start of the fourth quarter.

Devon Thomas scored 15 points for Muir (18-3, 3-2), which lost its third consecutive game.

Rialto Eisenhower 86, Fontana 55--Cory McJimson scored 25 points and Johnny Dukes had 19 points for second-ranked Eisenhower (18-2, 5-0) in a Citrus Belt League game at Fontana.

In girls’ soccer:

La Verne Bonita 0, San Dimas 0--Bonita’s 96-game Valle Vista League winning streak came to an end. Bonita (21-1-1, 8-0-1), ranked 10th in the region, took 20 shots on goal, while San Dimas managed only three. San Dimas is (13-6-1, 7-1-1).

In girls’ water polo:

Agoura 12, Simi Valley Royal 1--Nicole Shiflett scored three goals and Ashley Coleman, Lauren Lohnberg and Jaelella Nolan had two each for Agoura, which clinched a share of its fourth consecutive Marmonte League title. Graziella Caredda stopped eight shots for Agoura (14-4, 6-0), which played a player up after a Royal player was ejected in the second quarter.

Bell Gardens 18, Montebello 5--Viviana Morales scored six goals and Christy Urrea had four for second-ranked Bell Gardens (18-0, 4-0), which led, 9-1, after the first quarter of the Almont League game.

Ventura 7, Santa Barbara 6--Ventura upset fourth-ranked Santa Barbara after rallying from a 5-3 halftime deficit in a Channel League game. Dolores Johnson scored three goals and Solange Webster had two for host Ventura (14-4, 4-0). Goalie Addie Reyes had 15 saves, including several late in the game, for Ventura.

Molly Cahill scored five goals for Santa Barbara (12-5, 3-1).
