EchoStar Under Order To Carry ABC Channel
Under a court order issued Tuesday, EchoStar Communications Corp. will continue carrying Walt Disney Co.’s ABC Family channel on its satellite TV service until March 11 to allow for a period of third-party discovery and depositions in the contract dispute suit.
The U.S. District Court granted Disney’s request for an injunction last month to prevent EchoStar from dropping the channel on Dec. 31. But Judge Gary Allen Fees approved the satellite company’s request for discovery, postponing a hearing scheduled for Thursday until March 11.
Disney had objected to discovery, preferring a hearing this week. But the court said Disney’s claim that the uncertainty was burdening the channel was “unpersuasive.”
