Man Faces 4 Years for Making a Bomb Threat
A man convicted this week of making a false bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport will be sentenced Jan. 31, a judge announced Thursday.
A Los Angeles Superior Court jury on Tuesday found Jose Morales, 29, guilty of making a false report of a bomb to an agency or business. He faces up to four years in prison.
Shortly after boarding a United Airlines flight to El Salvador on Sept. 19, Morales, who was being deported, told a flight attendant that he had a bomb inside the bag and locked himself in the restroom, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth Kahn.
During trial, Morales denied saying he was trying to avoid deportation. Morales said he was merely singing the Spanish song “La Bomba,” by the group Azul Azul.
