Controlled Burn Planned for Steckel Park Area
Ventura County fire officials have scheduled a 100-acre controlled burn today near Steckel Park, just outside Santa Paula.
Weather permitting, firefighters will torch stacks of cut brush between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., said Terry Raley, the department’s wild land fire officer.
The controlled burn, the county’s first of the year, is being done to prepare for a larger controlled burn later this year. The burn area is near a ranch just off California 150.
Last year, there were 55 controlled burns, with about 3,000 acres torched. About 60 controlled burns are planned this year, Raley said.
