3 Children Burned in Barbecue Grill Explosion
From Times Staff Reports
Three children suffered second-degree burns at their Lawndale home Monday when a barbecue grill ignited in a flash of flames, authorities said.
The children--two girls, ages 6 and 10, and a 2-year-old boy--were standing about 15 feet from the grill when a fireball from a combination of charcoal and lighter fuel exploded, burning their faces and limbs, said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Brian Jordan.
They were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The 6-year-old was listed in critical condition.
