Republican Radio Ads Tax Davis’ Credibility
I cannot tell you how amused I am after hearing the new radio commercials paid for by the California Republican Party that attack Democratic Gov. Gray Davis (Dec. 28). The commercial attempts to blame him for squandering a budget surplus, which will result in higher taxes. I find it ironic for the GOP to take such a stance; after all, isn’t it the party that squandered a huge national budget surplus with its ill-advised tax relief program?
Furthermore, the commercial conveniently neglects to make any reference to this year’s California energy crisis that was brought on, in large measure, by the policies of Enron--a major Republican Party campaign donor that recently declared bankruptcy and will be the target of numerous congressional hearings. I wonder if those “compassionate” little elves in the commercial are still giggling.
