Ad Revenue Falls 10% in 2001
The Big Three broadcast networks saw combined sales fall by 10% to $10.2 billion during 2001, marking the single biggest percentage drop in at least 20 years, the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Assn. said.
Combined advertising sales at General Electric Co.’s NBC, Viacom Inc.’s CBS and Walt Disney Co.’s ABC fell by 8.9% to $2.6 billion during the fourth quarter, according to the report based on figures supplied by Ernst & Young.
Although sales during morning programs rose by a meager 0.013% during the fourth quarter, sales fell during news, sports, daytime, prime-time and late-night programming.
