Gee, Rahlves Thinks Win Would Be Super
The pressure is on again for Alpine skier Daron Rahlves of Truckee, Calif., heading into today’s super-giant slalom. Rahlves established himself as world class last year, when he stunned the European stars, especially Austrians Stephan Eberharter and Fritz Strobl, by winning the super-G world title in St. Anton, Austria.
In the Olympic downhill last weekend, Strobl took the gold and Eberharter the bronze; Rahlves was 16th. Eberharter and Strobl say they still owe Rahlves for taking the world title in their backyard. “Maybe I can take away the gold from him this year,” Eberharter said.
Rahlves called himself the underdog, although he is not without medal aspirations.
“This would definitely be the best place to have the race of my life,” he said.
