Canadian Aims for Repeat in Women’s 500
Canadian Catriona LeMay Doan is expected to defend the gold medal she won four years ago in Nagano in the 500 meters.
The best American in the event is Chris Witty, but this is not her best event. Recovering from mononucleosis, she has talked about withdrawing to conserve her energy for the 1,000 and 1,500. She won silver in the 1,000 and bronze in the 1,500 in 1998. The ninth U.S. athlete to compete in the Winter and Summer Games, she was fifth in the 500-meter time trial in cycling two years ago in Sydney.
