Signing Day for Prep Football
Ventura St. Bonaventure High running back Lorenzo Booker and La Palma Kennedy two-way standout Rhema McKnight will announce their college choices at news conferences today, the first day high school football players can sign letters of intent.
The two, along with running back Hershel Dennis and offensive lineman Winston Justice, both of Long Beach Poly, are the top Southland recruits who haven’t announced commitments. Booker, who will make his announcement at 3:45 p.m. today televised live on ESPN from the Casa Sirena Hotel in Oxnard, was expected to sign with USC, but sources close to USC and Booker said he was still considering other schools. McKnight, who has played receiver, quarterback, running back and defensive back, is holding a news conference at 3 p.m. at Kennedy.
Other late commitments include: linebacker Dana Garrison and receiver Jovan Hutchinson of Fairfax to Colorado State and Boise State, respectively; defensive back Doug Middleton of Anaheim Servite to Pennsylvania; receiver and defensive back Travonne Jackson of Los Angeles Jefferson to Brigham Young; and West Covina South Hills kicker Adrian Rosales to Portland State, offensive lineman Adam Messick and wide receiver Jaron Fairman to Fresno State, and linebacker Tyrell Tyler and running back Marcus Nolan to San Jose State. Denny Flanagan of Huntington Beach Edison will not attend San Diego State, which didn’t have a scholarship for him. He’ll choose between Nevada and Montana State.
