Connecticut Pushes Streak to 50 Games

Diana Taurasi and Ann Strother scored 18 points apiece as third-ranked Connecticut extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 50 games with a 74-55 victory Monday night over Florida State at Tallahassee, Fla.

The Huskies (11-0) didn’t start out well. They committed 11 turnovers, and even trailed the Seminoles for a four-minute stretch in the first half.

Florida State (7-3) was led Tasheika Morris with 18 points.

No. 8 Texas Tech 70, Rice 66 -- Plenette Pierson had 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to pace the Red Raiders (9-1) over the Owls (2-6) at Houston.

Natalie Ritchie converted a four-point play with 1:40 left to give Texas Tech the lead.

Ritchie, who finished with nine points, made a three-pointer with Tech leading 64-62. She was fouled on the play and made her free throw.

Kate Beckler led Rice with 13 points.

No. 9 Arkansas 87, Loyola Marymount 52 -- Ruby Vaden scored 16 points and reserve Dana Cherry had 15 before leaving with an injury at Fayetteville, Ark.

Cherry had 11 points in the second half before being knocked to the floor and losing her breath. India Lewis had 12 points for Arkansas (10-1).

Claudine Auld led the Loyola Marymount (7-4) with 10 points.

No. 10 Minnesota 83, Dayton 64 -- Lindsay Whalen had 33 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six steals as the Gophers (11-0) remained undefeated with a victory over the Flyers (7-3) at Dayton, Ohio.

No. 15 Penn State 83, Nebraska 64 -- Kelly Mazzante scored 24 points and Jess Strom had 20 to lead the Nittany Lions (9-2) over the Cornhuskers (7-3) in the championship game of the Surf ‘N Slam tournament at San Diego.

No. 21 Wisconsin Green Bay 78, Illinois Chicago 59 -- Sara Boyer scored 19 points, and Wisconsin Green Bay (9-2) used an 18-6 run in the second half to ease away from Illinois Chicago (6-5) in the Horizon League opener at Chicago.

No. 24 Villanova 88, Fairfield 42 -- Katie Davis scored 19 points, all of them in the first half on seven-for-10 shooting to lead the Wildcats (9-1) at Villanova, Pa.
