Avalanche Buries Group of Skiers; 1 Killed, 1 Hurt
From Times Wire Reports
An avalanche killed a cross-country skier and buried six others at a popular peak in southwest Washington, officials said.
The skiers from a Seattle mountaineering group were near the top of 6,856-foot Norse Peak.
Another skier was injured, possibly breaking a leg, but the other five managed to dig out and hike down to get help from rescue crews at Crystal Mountain, where there is a large skiing operation, a Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman said.
The Northwest was hit with several storms last week.
