New Year’s Eve Crowd No Sure Bet in Las Vegas
Showgirls at the airport greeted visitors arriving for New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, but cost-conscious travelers and the midweek timing of the party have slowed hotel bookings. Casinos hope a last-minute surge will fill the city’s 127,256 rooms.
An official at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said he expected all hotels to be full Tuesday night, but said stays may be shorter than usual.
Concerts and a fireworks show will attract as many as 290,000 people, the visitors authority said; last year’s event drew 289,000 visitors.
