A fix for fans of Jane’s Addiction

If you’re lucky enough to have a ticket for the New Year’s Eve show by Jane’s Addiction at the Wiltern, prepare yourself for an extravagant swirl of an event that uses the lobby as part of its party stage. “It’s what you would expect of Perry,” says Adam Schneider, the band’s manager, referring to lead singer Perry Farrell, who has a penchant for the fiery and the flamboyant.

More than ushering in 2003, the concert also rings in a year that will see the classic Los Angeles band try to reestablish itself with its first studio album since 1990.

Jane’s reunited in 2001 as a concert concern and, enthused by the stage success, began working in April on a new album with the guidance of producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, KISS, Lou Reed). An album tentatively titled “Hypersonic” could be in stores by summer.

Billboard has reported that Warner Bros. Records will handle it, but Schneider said the band is still considering several music labels.

The lineup has three original members -- Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins -- and one new face, bassist Chris Chaney, best known for his work with Alanis Morissette. Original Jane’s bassist Eric Avery has not joined in the assorted reunions since the band splintered in 1991.

The band’s manager says the new efforts mark a return to glory days. “This album is an absolute Bob Ezrin masterpiece,” Schneider said. “There’s the guitar and the feel of the vintage Jane’s sound.... There are radio songs and the songs that will make the fans of ‘Three Days’ happy.” That reference is a nod to the epic head-rush of a song that has been a longtime fan favorite. Will the new material stack up? Tuesday’s show will be an early indicator: The band will be sprinkling the new material in as the clock ticks toward 2003.
