Twisting the Law in Favor of Illegals

Re “Halt to Ariz. Citizen Border Patrols Urged,” Dec. 19: In referring to citizen patrols trying to keep illegals from crossing the border from Mexico into Arizona, Pamela Sutherland of the Arizona Civil Liberties Union says that “we are a government of law. The vigilantism and lawlessness they [citizen militias] represent cannot be tolerated, and we won’t let their behavior go unchecked.” This statement might make sense if it were being applied to the illegals, but to condemn citizens who are peacefully trying to protect their property from the illegals (who are by definition criminals) is absurd.

Our border with Mexico is a joke that, for some reason, our government can’t seem to control, and I applaud these private citizens for their efforts to protect our sovereignty. California’s fiscal crisis was caused at least partly by the overwhelming drain illegals place on our education and health-care systems. Anyone who works to avoid these problems in another state is a benefit to us all.
