Re “Group Sues to Block Lopez Recall Election,” Dec. 13:

Nativo Lopez, the incompetent and deceitful Santa Ana school board member, continues the campaign to derail his recall election set for Feb. 4. His previous attempts, such as trying to have the school board approve $30,000 of taxpayer money to investigate the matter, was rebuked by his colleagues after the district attorney did not find any wrongdoing. A month ago, he convinced his cronies on the board, Sal Tinajero and John Palacios, to approve a resolution asking the legislators to launch an investigation into the matter. Apparently, that request is not going anywhere. Our legislators have much larger issues to deal with, such as the huge state budget deficit.

So the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund comes to his rescue; Lopez replies that he was not aware that the lawsuit was being drafted. Those of us who have been following his behavior find it difficult to believe. The plaintiffs’ allegations that they were misled by the petition circulators due to their limited English skills is a farce. How did these plaintiffs pass their citizenship exams? They have to demonstrate how to write, speak and read English! Also, they could vote not to recall Lopez at election time to correct their error. Of course, I and thousands of Santa Ana residents fed up with Nativo Lopez will vote to recall him Feb. 4 and hope he will get the message.
