MTA Approves Funds to Buy 52 Light-Rail Cars
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved a $13.8-million increase Thursday in its contract with Siemens Transportation Systems to buy 52 light-rail cars.
The move, made despite years of unhappiness at the MTA over the timeliness and condition of the train cars it has received from Siemens, boosts costs spent on the contract to $215.2 million. The MTA also agreed to increase its budget for a shuttle and van service directed at the disabled community by $5 million.
