80 Arrested in Wake of Rioting, Looting

East Timor arrested 80 people and vowed to prosecute those responsible for bloody rioting that left two dead, wounded two dozen and raised questions about whether the world’s newest nation can govern itself once the United Nations pulls out.
Armed U.N. peacekeepers helped police restore calm after a day and a half of violence. Security forces prevented people from gathering in groups and fired warning shots to disperse youths trying to loot a shop.
