‘Nutcracker’ gets Luckman’s nyet
There will be one less “Nutcracker” in town this season. The Moscow Classical Ballet, which has been dancing the holiday chestnut locally for almost a decade, will not be at Cal State L.A.’s Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Complex Dec. 18-22, as previously announced.
“The arrangement with Moscow Classical Ballet was a proposed co-presentation, not a presentation,” said Luckman executive director Cliff Harper. That is, the ballet wasn’t renting the Luckman; the venue and the company were sharing the risk and investment of putting on the show. “During the negotiations,” Harper said, “an appropriate marketing plan was not mutually agreed upon.”
The familiar production will be presented Thursday to Dec. 15 at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
