Marion Jones defeated Zhanna Pintusevich-Block twice at the Van Damme Memorial track and field meet Friday in Brussels, Belgium.

Jones won the 100 meters in 10.88 seconds, finishing 0.02 ahead of Pintusevich-Block of Ukraine, the world champion. In the 200, they were even halfway through the race, but Jones pulled away at the end, finishing 0.13 ahead of Pintusevich-Block in 22.11.

Gail Devers avenged her only Golden League loss in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 12.49 and beating world champion Anjanette Kirkland by 0.13 seconds. Tim Montgomery won the 100 in 9.91, but Maurice Greene turned in another disappointing performance. Greene lost for the third time in two weeks, finishing sixth in 10.11.

Craig Barlow shot a seven-under-par 65 to take sole possession of the lead in the $3.5-million Air Canada Championship at Surrey. Robert Allenby, coming off a tie for second at the NEC Invitational last week outside Seattle, shot a bogey-free nine-under 62 to leave him one shot off the lead. David Gossett, Allenby’s playing partner, and Peter Lonard are both also one shot back at nine-under 133....Patricia Meunier-Lebouc shot a five-under-par 67 for a three-shot lead heading into the third round of the $1.1-million State Farm Classic at Springfield, Ill. She started the round one shot behind Becky Morgan but stood at 131 at the end of the day--three shots ahead of Akiko Fukushima, who shot a second consecutive 67 to move into second place at 10-under-par 134. Morgan shot two over on the back nine to finish with a 74, putting her in a nine-way tie for eighth at 137....A tip from the locals helped Graham Marsh gain a share of the first-round lead at the Senior PGA Tour’s Allianz Championship in West Des Moines, Iowa. Cautioned about reading too much break on the greens, Marsh made six birdie putts to shoot a 66 to tie Hale Irwin.

Steady rains washed out qualifying for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Southern 500 at Darlington, S.C., Raceway, so Sterling Marlin, the series points leader, will start on the pole in Sunday’s race because the 43-car field was set by points. Mark Martin, who trails Marlin by 95 points in the standings, starts second....Adrian Fernandez won the provisional pole for Sunday’s inaugural CART Shell Grand Prix of Denver.

Jockey Eddie Delahoussaye suffered a contusion to his temple and neck and hip injuries after being thrown from his mount, Seeingisbelieving, in the sixth race at Del Mar. Seeingisbelieving fractured his right front cannon bone in the race on turf and was euthanized.

Guard Stephon Marbury of the Phoenix Suns will serve 10 days in jail after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge in Scottsdale, Ariz. Marbury was stopped Feb. 8 while driving his Bentley convertible 25 miles above the speed limit. He registered a 0.18 blood alcohol level, more than twice Arizona’s legal limit. A level about 0.15 is considered extreme driving under the influence.
