Ax-Wielding Man Is Shot to Death by Police
Fountain Valley police Monday shot and killed a man wielding an ax at a residence he refused to leave.
Daniel Valenzuela, 48, was pronounced dead about 5:30 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Police said they were called to a home in the 17400 block of Santa Maria Street about 2:30 p.m. by a resident of the house who said Valenzuela wouldn’t leave. When police arrived, authorities said, Valenzuela attacked the officers with a double-bladed ax, prompting them to shoot.
One officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Orange County district attorney’s office, a standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
