$3.4 Million Will Help Cut Railroad Nuisance
The Orange County Transportation Authority on Monday approved a grant of $3.4 million for Placentia to help solve railroad noise and safety problems.
The grant, contingent on $500,000 in matching funds from the city, will fund improvements to rail crossings, such as better-designed traffic gates and bridges over railroad tracks.
If Placentia can reduce the risk at crossings, city officials say, they might be able to reinstate a ban on train whistles and horns, which have been a nuisance for people who live and work along the main rail lines through town.
