U.S. mediator Anthony C. Zinni met with the military commander in Indonesia’s Aceh province as part of private efforts to end one of Asia’s longest rebellions.
Villagers reported finding 10 bodies in the region this week, and rebels and the military blamed each other for the deaths.
Zinni, a retired Marine general, was sent to the Mideast this year as part of U.S. attempts to stem Israeli-Palestinian violence. He is visiting Indonesia with a delegation from a Geneva-based group trying to broker a peace in Aceh, where rebels have been fighting for independence since 1976.
