A former postal worker who spent 10 years in prison walked out of a Phoenix courtroom a free man, cleared by DNA evidence of the 1991 stabbing death of a bartender.

All charges against Ray Krone were dismissed. He had been serving a life sentence. Krone, 45, was convicted twice and spent a stint on death row.

“It’s a bad dream that has come to an end,” said Krone, who had been dubbed the “Snaggletooth Murderer” because of a bite mark. “We’re all very thankful. . . . It’s a good day and life’s going to get better.”

Another man has been charged in the case. Test results from the murder scene tied the crime to Kenneth Phillips, a convicted sex offender already incarcerated on an unrelated charge.
