Canseco Signs With White Sox
Jose Canseco’s quest for 500 homers brought him back to the Chicago White Sox.
Canseco, who needs 38 homers to reach 500 in his career, agreed to terms Thursday on a minor league contract with the White Sox. He will report to triple-A Charlotte and be activated in time for the Knights’ game Tuesday.
Canseco, 37, signed with the White Sox in June and hit .258 with 16 home runs and 49 runs batted in. He has 462 home runs.

The Texas Rangers will give John Rocker additional time to decide whether he will accept his demotion to triple-A Oklahoma. Texas optioned the struggling reliever to triple-A early Wednesday after he blew a save opportunity the night before.
In a statement released Thursday evening, Ranger General Manager John Hart and Rocker’s agent, Joe Sambito, announced they reached an agreement that gives Rocker until at least next week to decide if he wants to report to the minors.

The Minnesota Twins put right-hander Joe Mays on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow and recalled right-hander Matt Kinney from triple-A Edmonton.... The St. Louis Cardinals put pitchers Andy Benes and Garrett Stephenson on the 15-day disabled list. The Cardinals recalled right-handers Josh Pearce and Mike Crudale from triple-A Memphis.
