A Deserving MVP: Mo Vaughn? Please!

In all this talk about Mo Vaughn winning the MVP award, something seems to have been forgotten: the fact that Mo did not deserve to win the award--1995 was the year that Albert Belle tore up the American League.

Statistics bear out the fact that Belle had a better year than Mo, and it would be hard to argue that anyone was more important to his team than Belle was to the Indians.

Unfortunately for Belle, he was discourteous to reporters (and practically everyone else). While some sports writers voted objectively, enough of them could not put their personal distaste of Belle aside.

If ever baseball needed an asterisk, it should be after the line reading: “Mo Vaughn--MVP.”

That was a fascinating picture on page two in Friday’s sports page showing us Mo Vaughn’s off-season training regimen.

Oops, I just read the caption. Seems that’s a 771-pound sumo wrestler. Honest mistake.
