A John Clayton Fan
The appointment of Diane Reeves as a “creative chairperson” for the Hollywood Bowl’s jazz programs (“L.A. Phil Names Jazz Leader,” by Diane Haithman, March 28) is not a bad thing--that is, to the extent that L.A. Philharmonic executive vice president and managing director Deborah Borda allows her some authority.
But the loss of John Clayton as director of jazz programming at the Bowl is incalculable. Why was his contract not renewed? Merely because it was negotiated by Borda’s controversial predecessor, Willem Wijnbergen?
