Officers in Shooting May Be Kept Off Force
Despite findings by an independent arbitrator that two officers who were fired after the shooting death of Tyisha Miller should be reinstated, Riverside city officials filed a motion in court this week to keep Michael Alagna and Wayne Stewart off the force.
Alagna and Stewart were fired after they fatally shot 19-year-old Miller as she sat passed out in her car with a gun resting in her lap.
Then-Chief Gerald Carroll said the officers violated policy when they formed “an unreasonably dangerous plan” to smash the car window to rouse Miller. She jumped, prompting the officers to fire.
