Gunman Fires at Police During Football Practice
A gunfight broke out at a field where Los Angeles police officers were practicing football Tuesday after a gunman shot at them and a uniformed officer returned fire, police said.
No police officers were wounded in the 9 p.m. incident at Fremont High School.
The assailant fled and it was not known if he was injured.
The LAPD football team, which plays against teams from the FBI and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was in the middle of a routine practice.
It was not clear whether the gunman knew he was firing at the Police Department’s football team, said Officer Jason Lee, a department spokesman.
