War Is Not New
We have been told time and again that this is “a new kind of war.” But it seems like the same kind of war humanity has been waging since caveman days: Leaders vie for power, send their people to kill and die and, in the process, untold suffering befalls both sides, combatants and noncombatants alike. A truly new kind of war would be one in which both sides attack the root causes of war: ignorance, injustice, hopelessness, greed, lust for power and, above all, fear. Then all would see that the battle is not out there, but within.
