Julie Harris in Serious Condition
Actress Julie Harris, 75, was in serious but stable condition at a Chicago-area hospital Wednesday after being found semiconscious in her apartment over the weekend. The hospital declined to give details about Harris’ illness but did say it “is not life-threatening.” Harris, who was performing in a production at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater, was found by theater staff members after she failed to show up for Saturday’s performance. “She’s stable and improving, but it looks like her recovery will be a long one,” the theater’s managing director said. Harris has won a record five best actress Tony Awards.
Kidman Wins Restraining Order
Nicole Kidman got a three-year restraining order Wednesday against Matthew Hooker, 40, with a Santa Monica judge finding “clear and convincing evidence” that Hooker harassed and “seriously annoyed” the actress. Hooker, who has said he merely tried to romance the actress and did not stalk her as Kidman claims, said he will appeal the judge’s order to stay at least 250 yards from Kidman and her children.
Stork Time for Hill-McGraw, Durst
Country music supercouple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw announced Wednesday that they are expecting their third child in January. They have two young daughters. . . . Also preparing for new parenthood is Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst, who posted a message on the band’s Web site Wednesday saying he wants to “carry out the Durst legacy.” Durst described the child’s mother as a Minnesota woman he met on tour last year. “I’m not getting married or anything like that, but I am going to support the child,” said Durst, who said the child, a boy, will be born in late August or early September.
Lula Washington Buys New Home
Lula Washington Dance Theatre--while continuing its legal battle with the city of Los Angeles over the fate of its former studio, which was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake--has purchased a $1.5-million property at 3773-75 S. Crenshaw Blvd., near the L.A. Coliseum. The dance company is making a $950,000 down payment but has to repay the rest of the purchase price in two years, and also must raise $200,000 to renovate the building (currently Antonio Villaraigosa’s mayoral campaign headquarters) before dancers can move in. “We know we are taking a big chance by making this move,” said company executive director Erwin Washington, who is seeking community donations to help with the building’s costs.
Anderson Settles Second Video Suit
Actress Pamela Anderson has settled her suit over a sex tape she made with Poison’s Bret Michaels. Anderson’s lawyer said that Internet Entertainment Group had agreed to pay Anderson and onetime boyfriend Michaels a seven-figure sum and destroy all copies of the homemade tape. IEG previously settled with Anderson over a similar video featuring Anderson and ex-husband Tommy Lee.
