Normal Flight Schedules Expected to Resume Today
Wednesday’s earthquake severely disrupted air traffic to and from Seattle, and officials said it probably will be sometime today before airlines serving Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will be able to resume normal flight schedules.
Although no aircraft were damaged, the quake knocked the control tower at Sea-Tac out of commission, shutting down operations there for hours on Wednesday.
Alaska Airlines, which provides the most commercial air service at Sea-Tac, said it had or probably would cancel about 90 flights in and out of the airport, including dozens to and from airports in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The airline said it hoped normal service would resume today.
Other carriers between Southern California and Seattle, including Southwest and United, were similarly affected, but on a smaller scale. Information on their flights was not immediately available.
Passengers planning to fly to the Seattle area today were advised to contact their airlines before heading for the airport.
