With leading scorer Casey Jacobsen shut down for much of the game, No. 1 Stanford turned to twin towers Jason and Jarron Collins for scoring punch.

Each of the Collins twins scored 18 points at Pullman, Wash., as Stanford shook off surprisingly tough Washington State, 72-61, to set a school record with 19 consecutive victories to open the season.

“There is no pressure on any one individual on this team,” said Jacobsen, who entered the game averaging nearly 18 points, but settled for 11. “That’s why I love playing for Stanford.”

Washington State concentrated on shutting down Stanford’s outside shooting, but had no answer for the Collins twins, who scored their points in bunches to keep the Cardinal in the lead nearly the entire game.

Jarron Collins made eight of 10 shots, while Jason made eight of 12 and added 12 rebounds as Stanford dominated the boards, 40-20.

The Cardinal, 19-0 overall and 7-0 in the Pacific 10, remained the only unbeaten Division I team.

Washington State (7-10, 1-7) lost its fourth consecutive game and seventh in the past eight. Mike Bush scored 23 points and kept Washington State in contention.

No. 12 Arizona 80, No. 20 Texas 52--Gilbert Arenas and Michael Wright scored 16 points apiece as the Wildcats won their sixth in a row in a nonconference game at Tucson.

It was also the worst loss of the season for the Longhorns (15-5).

Arizona Coach Lute Olson said the margin surprised him.

“That’s a good team,” he said. “Our defense did not let them look like a good team.”

The Wildcats (14-5), the preseason No. 1 team, are 4-0 since Olson came back after the death of his wife.

“We’re getting there,” he said. “I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we need to be yet offensively, but it’s a whole lot better than it was a month ago.”

Texas (15-5) shot only 31% from the field (22 of 70) and is 3-5 on the road. Chris Owens had 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Longhorns but was eight of 25 from the field.

The 28-point loss surpassed the 95-69 blowout of the Longhorns by Duke on Nov. 22.

California 79, Washington 64--Sean Lampley scored five of his 21 points during a late 21-6 run at Seattle as the Golden Bears completed a road sweep of the Washington schools for the first time since 1993.

The Bears trailed, 51-50, with six minutes remaining before Lampley opened Cal’s late run with a free throw. By the time Joe Shipp capped it with a fast-break layup, the Bears led, 71-57, with 2:16 remaining.

Dennis Gates scored 10 points for Cal (14-5, 5-2 Pac-10). Michael Johnson scored 14 points, David Dixon added 12 and Bryan Brown 11 and for Washington (8-12, 2-6).

Cal has won 13 of its last 15 games, the best mark for 15 consecutive games since the 1993-94 Bears did the same. The Huskies have lost eight of 10.
