Court OKs Argentine Suspect’s Extradition
From Times Wire Reports
A judge ruled that Mexico can extradite an Argentine suspect to Spain to face charges stemming from his alleged role in his nation’s “dirty war” of the 1970s and 1980s. Ricardo Miguel Cavallo was the director of Mexico’s National Registry of Motor Vehicles when he was arrested Aug. 24 after five former political prisoners alleged that he had tortured them in Argentina. Cavallo has denied the charges. An estimated 30,000 people were killed or “disappeared” in the Argentine military’s war against leftists and their supporters.
