Tom McCollum, the boys’ basketball coach at Hueneme High for five seasons, has resigned from that position.

McCollum, 51, said it was time to let a coach with more energy take over the program.

“What the program needs now is an energetic, young coach,” McCollum said. “Someone who’s willing to spend a lot of time with the kids, especially during the summers.”

Hueneme was 4-15 this season and 43-71 in McCollum’s five seasons.
