Bloomington Football Team Needs Opponent
Bloomington High’s football program is searching for a Week 2 opponent after discovering a scheduling mistake this week.
The Bruins had listed La Verne Bonita as their Sept. 14 opponent, but the Bearcats are playing at Whittier California High that night.
After Bloomington Coach Robert Kistner learned of the discrepancy, he called to confirm the game with Bonita Coach Eric Podley, who informed him the contract was for only one year.
“It’s a mess,” Kistner said. “We’re looking, but I don’t know if we’re going to get anything. We had a change of athletic directors and this fell through the cracks. Everybody told me it was a two-year deal, and it wasn’t.”
Bloomington, which won four consecutive Southern Section titles (1996-99), defeated Bonita, 52-13, last season en route to a 5-6 record.
Former athletic director Paul Russell resigned in July because of health reasons and was replaced by Butch Edge.
Edge said Kistner called him Monday to relay the news.
