Election Law Wins Parliament’s Approval
Bosnia-Herzegovina’s parliament adopted a long-delayed election law that is seen as a key condition for the Balkan country to join the 43-nation Council of Europe and hold a presidential election in 2002.
The legislature’s upper house gave the law its unanimous approval, two days after a majority in the lower house voted in favor of the legislation on how to run elections.
The law will allow the country to organize its own elections. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has organized previous polls since the 1992-95 war in Bosnia.
