The county Special Education Local Plan Area has released its new resource manual for families, child-care workers and other people who work with children who have disabilities.

The manual contains brochures and fact sheets on more than 100 disabilities and other information helpful to families of students enrolled in local special education programs, said Ventura County schools Supt. Charles Weis.

The manual is available at all county public libraries, the superintendent’s professional library, Rainbow Connection Family Resource Center and Child Development Resources of Ventura County.

The manuals cost $45 each and can be purchased from the county schools superintendent’s Reprographics Department.

The SELPA Community Advisory Committee works to maintain the flow of information to the special education administration and back to the community, said SELPA director Bernard Korenstein.

“A majority of the committee members are parents of students with special needs,” he said. “The remaining members are educators, people with disabilities and representatives from community agencies.”

The committee meets at 3:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Simi Room of the county schools superintendent’s Administrative Service Center, 5189 Verdugo Way, Camarillo.
