Pincay May Appeal Suspension
Jockey Laffit Pincay may appeal a five-day suspension he was given by the Hollywood Park stewards after the disqualification of 58-1 longshot Designed For Luck in Sunday’s $500,000 Early Times Hollywood Derby.
Designed For Luck crossed the wire a head in front of favored Brahms, but was placed fifth for allegedly interfering with Zentsov Street, who originally finished fourth, and Walkslikeaduck, who was fifth.
Pincay was cited by stewards Dave Samuel, George Slender and Tom Ward for “failing to maintain a straight course through the stretch.”
The suspension is scheduled to begin Dec. 6 and continue through Dec. 10, the one-year anniversary of his record 8,834th win on Irish Nip, a victory that enabled him to overtake Bill Shoemaker as thoroughbred racing’s all-time winningest rider. Hollywood Park has a ceremony planned to honor Pincay that day.
