Cabico’s 245 Yards Rushing Keeps Costa Mesa in Running for Playoffs
Costa Mesa did what it could to stake claim to a Division IX wild-card playoff berth Thursday, defeating Northwood, 57-7, in a Pacific Coast League game at Orange Coast College.
The Mustangs (6-4 overall, 2-3) ran for 486 yards and seven touchdowns while their defense held the Timberwolves (2-8, 0-5) to only 88 yards.
Nick Cabico rushed for 245 yards--including touchdown runs of 57, 54 and 15 yards--in only 12 carries. He also caught two passes for 42 yards, gained 24 yards on punt returns, completed a pass and intercepted a pass.
Sophomore Keola Asuega, spelling Cabico, rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns in 17 carries.
Costa Mesa had three interceptions and seven quarterback sacks.
