LAGUNA WOODS
Most people keep an alarm clock and maybe a good book next to their beds, but Cathy Bendall has more than that.
As a survivor of the Northridge earthquake, the Dana Point resident learned firsthand the art of being prepared for absolutely anything. She owns three emergency kits, has fire extinguishers in every room and a special bolt on her water heater.
Bendall will share her survival story on Saturday at Leisure World’s earthquake fair.
“I still feel like there are more steps I can take to prepare. You always feel that you have more time, but you never know. Earthquakes are unforgiving,” Bendall said.
The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Clubhouse Five. An “Aftershock” dance begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the fair and dance is limited to Leisure World residents and their guests.
