Girl, 16, Killed in One-Car Accident
A 16-year-old Lancaster girl who apparently fell asleep at the wheel was killed Sunday morning when her car went off the Antelope Valley Freeway and crashed into a light pole, authorities said.
The girl was driving with a friend at 3 a.m. near Via Princessa when her car slid off the road, down an embankment and into the pole, said Sgt. Bruce Sonnenblick of the county Sheriff’s Department.
The driver’s 18-year-old friend, also from Lancaster, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where she was in serious condition Sunday.
Investigators believe the driver had fallen asleep, Sonnenblick said. The girls’ names were not released.
