Discover the ancient culture of the Scythian people in an afternoon of activities inspired by the exhibition “Gold of the Nomads: Scythian Treasures From Ancient Ukraine!” During “Find Scythia!,” the latest installment in LACMA’s Sheila and Wally Weisman Family Sundays series, children can make their own jewelry with animal images, work with clay, and re-create Scythian armor. The Sunday series is designed for families with children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are encouraged to participate in the Toddler Tarp, a Family Sunday activity that allows younger kids to create art at their own pace.

There’s funny, and then there’s Bill Cosby funny. Sure, he’s a great comedic actor--a few successful TV shows are evidence of that. And the Kennedy Center Honor a few years ago made it official that he’s an American treasure. But there’s no forgetting that he’s also a master of stand-up comedy--with stories that are appropriate for the whole family. At his annual show in the L.A. area, Cosby is sure to make you laugh till your spleen hurts--just as he’s done for 40 years.

Scotland’s Battlefield Band, now in its 31st year, is back on a tour that reaches San Juan Capistrano. The group is weathering guitarist-bodhran player Davy Steele’s recent departure for health reasons, but it has added singer-guitarist Karine Polwart. The quartet’s latest album, “Leaving Friday Harbor,” has plenty of traditional tunes alongside originals by Steele, who left after the album was done, singer-keyboardist Alan Reid, fiddler John McCusker and piper Mike Katz. Among its delightful surprises is Katz’s “Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura Reel,” surely the only bagpipe-led musical tribute to the flamboyant wrestler-turned-Minnesota governor.

A festive program--featuring two “Brandenburg” Concertos, another based on “Brandenburg” 3, plus music by Telemann--showcases the talents of the L.A. Baroque Orchestra, returning to the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre for “Bachfest.” Founder-leader Gregory Maldonado presides over the festivities.

Harrison Ford is at his smirking best in a pair of Indiana Jones adventures presented at the New Beverly Cinema. In 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Ford introduced us to the snake-hating archeologist who ventures far and wide, battling Nazis for treasures of the ancient world. Producer George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg rebounded from a less-inspired second entry in the series (“Temple of Doom”) with 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” which sends Jones looking for his father (Sean Connery), who has disappeared while looking for the Holy Grail.
