Bail Set for Man Accused of Using Net to Lure Girl

LOS ANGELES —  A federal judge set bail at $50,000 Tuesday for a Long Beach man accused of transporting a 15-year-old Georgia girl to Los Angeles so he could have sex with her.

Michael Glover, 43, was expected to post the bail as early as today. Then he must wear an electronic monitoring device until a Sept. 11 evidentiary hearing. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 18 on two counts of transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Glover, a paralegal, faces a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted on both counts.

Glover is accused of meeting the teenager on the Internet in April and then striking up a relationship in which they talked every day by e-mail or text pager.

Authorities say Glover flew to Georgia, met the girl Aug. 18 at a ballpark, and--with her permission--flew back to Los Angeles with her.

Glover was arrested last Thursday, a day after an FBI agent found the girl at a Motel 6 in Santa Fe Springs. Authorities say the two had been there, and having sex, for at least several days.

At Tuesday’s hearing, U.S. Magistrate George Swartz granted Glover permission to work in the daytime, but ordered that he observe a curfew from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. and that he stay away from computers.

Glover said nothing at the afternoon hearing in federal court. His court-appointed public defender, Jesus Bernal, did not return calls seeking comment.
